![]() Ive caught a few interesting things- mostly military planes- its pretty cool seeing where the police and/or border patrol planes and helicopters are at also. I go on this site out of boredom when at work sometimes. My kid was on cloud nine for a week afterwards, and it was easily one of my best memories of 2020. We could see planes bypassing Reagan to/from Dulles or BWI we could see the distant cities where they'd come from or were going we could even see pictures of the specific planes. ![]() until, WHOOSH, it blew right over our heads.Īfter the thrill of the first few arrivals, we began tracking planes further out. The tiny dot on the horizon stopped moving across the sky and started getting bigger. Then, on the radar, we could see the planes turn directly toward us. On the radar, we could see the planes making big sweeping arcs about 20 miles out from our location to line up with the approach corridor, and we could match them with a tiny spot cutting across the horizon, right around the cloud line. It was a slow weekend afternoon, and the planes were only coming in every 10 minutes, so we camped out in the grass and kept our eyes on FlightRadar24 on my phone. ![]() And I mean immediately underneath it: incoming planes fly about 200 feet over your head and land about 20 seconds later. Last year, my kid and I trekked out to Gravelly Point, which is a public park that's under the main approach corridor for Reagan National Airport.
